Once you have a text section on a page, simply click on the text to edit it. You will see your menu on the left side change to a “save” or “cancel” dialog box. Once you are done editing your text, simply save the changes to the left.
After you type some text into the box, highlight the text to view the formatting and feature options. You will see an icon bar that looks like this:
If you hover over each button, the system will tell you what it does.
Bold - Makes the current text bold
Italics - Makes the current text italicized
Underline - Underlines the current text
Font Family - Lets you select a new font for the curently selected text. Note that you can add additional Google Fonts if desired (see the Site Settings section for more details).
Font Size - Lets you change the size of a font.
Text Color - Lets you change the color of a font.
More Text - Opens up a drop down with some more text formatting options:
These options let you change the background color, choose the font unit, choose strikethrough, subscript, or superscript text, and edit the line height to bring your text lines closer to or further from one another.
Most of these are self-explanatory except for “Font Unit.” This option lets you choose between “pixels” or “viewport width.” Pixels are standard font measurements, but “viewport width” units let you size your fonts based on the current screen size. This can be useful if you have trouble making very large text look good across multiple devices. Select “viewport width,” then choose a font size for your text to use this feature.
Paragraph Format - This is a very useful tool. It allows you to choose between normal text and various size headers. It is good to use headers throughout your website because it calls out important areas of your site. It is also useful to keep your site friendly for disabled visitors, because headers are used to tell them what is most important about a given page.
Align - This allows you to align your text to the left, center, or right, or to fully justify the text across the page. This is the best method for aligning text. Do NOT use the spacebar to try and align your text, it will create inconsistent results across different screen types.
Ordered List - This turns your text into an outline that is numbered.
More Paragraph - This provides you with a few additional paragraph formatting buttons:
These options allow you to use an unordered (bullet point) outline, indent, remove indent, or block quoate for a large area of quoted text.
Insert Image - Lets you insert an image directly into the text area. You can upload an image or choose one from the server.
Insert Video - Lets you insert a video directly into the text area. You can upload a video or choose one from the server.
Insert Audio - Lets you insert an audio file directly into the text area. You can upload an audio file or choose one from the server.
More Rich - Opens up a drop down with some more rich formatting options:
Toggle Rich Text Pasting - When you paste content from Microsoft Word or other sources, it can contain a number of erroneous HTML characters that result in unpredictable appearance. This will toggle between rich text and plain text pasting. Using plain text can eliminate some of the undesired results of pasting from something like MS Word.
Insert file - Allows you to upload most any type of file for use in the text box.
Insert table - Allows you to insert a table with columns/rows. While this can seem desirable for layout purposes, it does create unpredictable results on mobile devices. It can be better to use several text sections lined up next to one another rather than a table.
Insert/Edit Link - Creates a hyperlink out of your current text.
Button Style - Creates a button out of your current text with a specified style.
Button Size - Creates a button out of your current text with a specified size.
Link to File - Creats a link to a file located on your server.
More Misc - Opens up a drop down with more options for text editing:
These options let you clear all text formatting, undo/redo edits, insert special characters, horizontal lines, or select all.
